Early each December, for children from needy families who may not otherwise be able to afford it, Hope welcomes them to "shop" for thier family members by choosing from donated Christmas gifts. It is a large project, managed by Leslie Derham, requiring many volunteers to solicit gift donations and/or donated funds to purchase gifts, set up the church facility to accommodate hundreds of children and their families, publicize the project, help sorting and displaying the gifts, provide helpers who accompany the children while they "shop," others who wrap the presents, provide refreshments for the guest families, and help with cleaning up.

This is an invitation to join the Interfaith Quilters at Hope Lutheran. We meet Monday afternoons from 12:30 to 3 P.M. September through May. We end the afternoon with treats and coffee. You need not be a member of Hope Lutheran Church to join our group. Click on picture above for a short video of a recent TV news report on the 300 quilts created in 2015.
While our primary focus is providing quilts for Lutheran World Relief, we also distribute quilts locally to The Salvation Army, Haven House, Gallatin County Sheriff's Department, or other local families in crisis, as needs arise. There is no experience necessary and it's a great way to meet new people, while having fun. The steps involved in completing the quilt are layering, pinning, tying, and sewing the edges for a strong finished product. Due to the volume of quilts we produce, we do no machine or hand quilting. By simplifying the process we produce 300-400 beautiful, utilitarian quilts each year.
We would love to have more helping hands as we fill these needs. Whether you have an hour to spare or can only come once a month, each quilt you help to complete will help individuals and families in crises. Some ladies choose to work at home. Stop by any Monday and check us out. If you would like more information call Jan Riekenberg at 624-6923 or email email@example.com.
