John Hermanson is Hope Lutheran's first Permanent Artist-in-Residence, writing prophetic original hymns and liturgical music for congregational singing.

John Hermanson is an award-winning songwriter and composer of the acclaimed acoustic duo Storyhill alongside Bozeman musician Chris Cunningham, as well as independent and commercial music spanning orchestral, world, pop, rock, and indie genres. Raised at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman, John has served Lutheran communities in Minnesota, Washington state, and Montana. His sacred music is in regular rotation at centers of Lutheran liturgy like Holden Village (Washington), Christikon Camp and Conference Center (Montana), and House of Mercy (Minneapolis). • Storyhill, Bethlehem Album (2020)

From Storyhill.com: This collection combines hopeful themes from the prophet Isaiah, traditional Christmas carols, and original material to both comfort the listener and compel positive engagement in the world. Storyhill’s signature plaintive harmonies lend themselves well to the traditional tunes like Lo, How a Rose is Blooming, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, and It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, turning old classics into folk-duo anthems. A trio of originals on the second half of the album, Could It Be, The New Colossus, and High Road remind listeners that the hoped-for gift of Christmas will result in their own change to bring about a better world.
